The KD*P Pockels Cell utilizes the longitudinal electro-optic effect of the KD*P crystal, where the direction of the applied electric field aligns with both the light propagation direction and the crystal optical axis. The applied electric field alters the refractive index of the crystal, and the difference between the two induced refractive indices is linearly proportional to the electric field strength. KD*P Pockels Cells can be used as electro-optic Q-switches for lasers, electro-optic modulators (for amplitude and phase modulation), and optical pulse selectors.
